River Valley Credit Union is a state-chartered, member-owned credit union headquartered in Miamisburg, Ohio, serving the Dayton and Miami Valley region. It provides a full range of financial services including deposit accounts, consumer and mortgage lending, and digital banking solutions.
History
River Valley Credit Union traces its origins to 1949 when it was first established as a cooperative financial institution serving local workers and residents.[1] Over subsequent decades, it grew through branch expansion and mergers with other regional credit unions.
In April 2024, longtime Chief Executive Officer John Bowen retired after nearly three decades of service. Lee Spivey was appointed as the new President and CEO effective May 1, 2024.[4][5]
In 2024, River Valley opened a new branch in Springboro, Ohio, featuring Interactive Teller Machines (ITMs) for hybrid self-service and live-teller access.[6][7]
That same year, the credit union began reconstruction of its Middletown branch to include modern features such as ITMs, a lounge area, and private offices.[8]
Operations and Structure
Governance and Charter
River Valley operates under a state charter and is governed by a volunteer board of directors elected by its members. Its deposits are insured through American Share Insurance for up to US$250,000, with additional coverage provided by Excess Share Insurance for a combined total of up to US$1,000,000 per account.[9]
Branch Network and Service Area
The credit union maintains seven branches across southwestern Ohio, including locations in Miamisburg, Beavercreek, Dayton, Huber Heights, Springboro, West Carrollton, and Middletown.[1] Membership is open to individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Butler, Clark, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, or Warren counties, as well as to immediate family members of current members.[10]

River Valley Credit Union offers checking and savings accounts, share certificates, credit cards, personal and vehicle loans, home equity loans, and mortgages.[11] It also provides online and mobile banking, e-statements, remote deposit, and access to a network of surcharge-free ATMs.[12]
In 2024, the credit union introduced digital investing and cryptocurrency investment tools through third-party fintech partnerships.[13]
