History[edit]

Growing up in Petaluma, California, frontman Jared Emerson-Johnson began playing violin at age five, and picked up several other instruments throughout his childhood. First introduced to jug band music by his father, band member Bruce Johnson, and his uncle CEJ, Jared spent his teenage years listening to classics of the 60s jug band revival such as the Jim Kweskin Jug Band, The Even Dozen Jug Band, and The Holy Modal Rounders. .[1]

Since their formation, the band has played festivals such as the Rivertown Revival[2], and the Sutter Creek Jug Band Festival,[3] as well as countless regional venues in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

Musical style and influences[edit]

The Rivertown Skifflers's style is often described as uptempo, happy,[4] spirited,[5] dance americana.[6]

In January 2022, members of the Rivertown Skifflers were featured in a production of Cyrano at Cinnabar Theater in Petaluma, California[7]
