Riya Basnet (born 19 July 1996) is a Nepalese model and winner of Miss Nepal Earth 2019.[2][3] She also won Miss Popular Choice during Miss Nepal 2019.[4] She is a founding member of a non-profit company, Young Roots. The company works towards the promotion of eco-friendly homes, offices and schools. She represented Nepal at the Miss Earth 2019 pageant.
Early life and family background
Riya was born in Kathmandu, Bagmati Pradesh.[1] Her father, Binay Basnet, is a managing director of Koshi Tours and Travels. Her mother, Srijana Poudel Basnet, is working as an assistant branch manager at NLG Insurance. Her younger sister, Arya Basnet, is an IT student. Riya has travelled to various parts of Nepal and several countries around the world.
Education
Riya completed her School Leaving Certificate from Paragon School. Then, she joined United Academy as a science student. She completed her bachelor's degree from Kathmandu University School of Management.
Career
Riya won Miss Earth Nepal 2019. She is running her own non-profit company, Young Roots. She raises her voice about environmental issues through this company. Young Roots focuses on mitigating solid waste management issues across major cities of Nepal. They have started projects like zero waste school and zero waste home. The company also works towards promoting sustainable tourism in Nepal.
