Rob Hamilton

Rob Hamilton (born October 2, 1973 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, USA) is an American composer and researcher working in the areas of computer music composition, procedural audio and music and virtual musical instruments. He is an Assistant Professor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in the School of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences' Department of Arts with an appointment in the Games and Simulation Arts and Sciences program (GSAS)[1]. He holds a PhD in Computer-based Music Theory and Acoustics as well as a MA in Music, Science and Technology from Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) where his doctoral advisor was Chris Chafe[2]. He also holds a MM in Computer Music Composition from The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University (2004), as well as a BA in Music and Cognitive Science from Dartmouth College (1996) where he studied with composers Jon Appleton, Larry Polansky and Charles Dodge.

Family[edit]

He is the son of Willam F. Hamilton, the former Director of the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology in the Wharton School and the School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Pennsylvania.
