Script error: No such module "AfC submission catcheck". Robert James Forrest (1836 – 17 July 1902),[1] known as R. J. Forrest (Chinese: 富禮賜) in diplomatic documents, was a British consul stationed in Qing China. While serving as a consul at Ningbo (c. 1860s), he is known for his first-hand account of the political life in Nanjing, the capital of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom. He is also known for his account of the Northern Chinese Famine of 1876–1879 while serving as a consul in Tientsin and the Chairman of the Famine Relief Committee at Tientsin.[2] He is also a consul at Kiungchow (1872–74), Swatow (?-?) and Amoy (1881–1993).
