Roberto Arellano Peña y Lillo (1873 – 18 August 1938) was a Chilean lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies of Chile.

A member of the National Party, Arellano represented Cauquenes, Constitución and Chanco for three consecutive terms from 1906 to 1915. During his nine years in the Chamber, he served as a member of the Mixed Budget Commission.[1]

During his parliamentary career, Arellano introduced several legislative proposals. In 1910, he presented a bill to reform the law governing the organization and powers of the courts of justice.[1]

Biography

Arellano was born in Cauquenes, the son of José Antonio Arellano and Pilar Peña y Lillo. He studied humanities at the local secondary school and later studied law at the University of Chile, qualifying as a lawyer on 16 July 1897. His law thesis was entitled Servicios de aduana.[1]

After qualifying as a lawyer, he practiced in Santiago. In 1902, he undertook a study trip through the Americas and served as an attaché to the Chilean legations in Peru and Bolivia, where the government appointed him a civil attaché.[1]

He later traveled through Europe and Africa, spending approximately a year and a half abroad. During a further study trip to Europe in 1911, he focused particularly on economic affairs and public education.[1]

Arellano was a prominent member of the National Party. After leaving Congress, he continued his legal career and served as municipal attorney of Santiago from 1930 to 1934. He was also managing director of the Caja de Empleados Municipales and a member of the Chilean Bar Association.[1]

He died in Santiago on 18 August 1938.[1]
