RockHer Haute Jewels, commonly known as RockHer, is a Los Angeles–based jewelry manufacturer and luxury retailer founded in the mid-2010s. The company was launched by industry veteran Jim Vernon, a diamantaire with over 30 years’ experience, and went into operation around 2016.[1][2] RockHer specializes in made-to-order engagement and wedding rings, selling both natural and lab-grown diamonds. Its headquarters and workshop are in Los Angeles, California.[2]
RockHer’s business model is direct-to-consumer: customers design custom rings online, and RockHer crafts them in its Los Angeles studio.[2] The company emphasizes technology and personalization. Its website lets shoppers select a setting and diamond then submit a custom order. RockHer reports a focus on transparency and open pricing. In 2022 RockHer was highlighted in Haute Living magazine as a “stand-out in the industry,” noting that Vernon “surrounded himself with the finest designers, gemologists, and craftsmen” to ensure high quality.[2]
Products and Technology
RockHer offers both mined and lab-grown diamonds. The firm promotes lab-grown stones as an ethical and innovative option. Early on, the RockHer team (longtime natural-diamond professionals) was initially skeptical about lab-grown diamonds, but customers ultimately “embraced a new fifth C: choice,” recognizing lab-grown diamonds for their quality and affordability.[2] RockHer claims to test and certify all diamonds it sells. Products also include wedding bands and fine jewelry; all rings are handcrafted in-house. RockHer has integrated modern manufacturing methods (including 3D modeling, 3D printing, and microscopic setting) to produce its custom pieces.[2]
A distinctive innovation is RockHer’s AI gemologist, ROSI (Rational Octahedron Selection Intelligence). Launched in 2017, ROSI is an AI-powered diamond recommendation engine built with IBM’s Watson technology.[3] ROSI analyzes thousands of GIA-certified diamonds on the global wholesale market and considers dozens of quality factors (far beyond the traditional 4Cs) to guide customers to an optimal diamond for their budget.[3] According to RockHer and coverage in Entrepreneur magazine, ROSI is billed as the “world’s first intelligent diamond recommendation engine” and “digital diamond expert.” Customers input their budget, preferred diamond shape, and whether they value price, size, or quality most; ROSI then computes the best matches from over a million data combinations.[3] RockHer’s CEO Jim Vernon has emphasized that combining AI with century-old diamond expertise “perfects the creativity and the science behind diamond selection.”[2]
Ethical Sourcing and Sustainability
RockHer emphasizes ethical sourcing and sustainability in its products. All of the company’s precious metals are recycled: RockHer uses 100% recycled gold, platinum, and palladium in its jewelry.[4] The firm explicitly states that it avoids newly mined metals to prevent environmental damage from mining (for example, toxic run-off from cyanide use).[4] In its published materials, RockHer explains that it has signed the “Golden Rules” pledge and belongs to the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC), committing to high standards of ethical and environmentally sensitive sourcing.[4] The company also claims to go beyond the Kimberley Process for diamonds, vetting all stones for traceability and responsible origins.[4]
For diamonds, RockHer offers customers detailed provenance: every natural diamond comes with full documentation of origin and certification. The company asserts that its sourcing partners comply with rigorous labor and environmental standards.[4] Lab-grown diamonds are promoted as an environmentally friendlier alternative since they avoid mining; RockHer’s suppliers have pledged to reduce carbon footprints and pursue renewable energy in production. In 2022 and beyond RockHer publicized its pledge to eco-friendly practices (for example, advertising that its production processes are nickel-free and use recycled metals).[4] These sustainability initiatives are part of RockHer’s mission to make “luxury” also mean responsible jewelry.
Media Coverage and Recognition
RockHer’s technological innovations and business model have attracted media attention. In 2018 Entrepreneur magazine featured RockHer’s ROSI as a case study, explaining how the AI gemologist delivers “expert guidance” in online ring buying.[3] The Entrepreneur article notes that ROSI was developed by Adam Stein (of Advantageous Systems) and calls it the “world’s first digital diamond expert.” Industry and consumer press have also interviewed founder Jim Vernon; for example, USA Today ran a piece on entrepreneur Jim Vernon discussing how business owners keep up with trends, highlighting RockHer’s CEO as an example.[5] Bridal media have noted RockHer’s offerings as well: wedding blogs such as WeddingChicks described ROSI’s ability to pick diamonds, and The Knot included RockHer’s engagement rings in curated selections of luxury rings.[6][7] Haute Living’’’s 2022 profile of RockHer credited the company with “exceptional quality and value” in custom rings.[2]
In the trade, RockHer is affiliated with major industry organizations. As noted on RockHer’s site, it is a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council and the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC), reflecting its commitment to business and ethical standards.[4] The company has also maintained an A+ accreditation rating from the Better Business Bureau (BBB) since 2018.[1] No major jewelry industry awards for RockHer have been reported. In customer forums and reviews RockHer is often praised for its quality and service.
