Rock Melon is an American indie rock band from Saint Paul, Minnesota. The group consists of Zach Nelson, Caleb Nesbitt, Evan Hoglund, and Benji Brunner. Nesbitt and Brunner met and started the idea for Rock Melon in 2021 at Highland Park Senior High School.
The group will be releasing their first album with Bootyesthetic Records in 2023. They first gained a small fanbase after their 2022 single, "The Spark," got 2.5 thousand streams on Spotify.
History
Origin
Rock Melon was created in the fall of 2021 by Caleb Nesbitt on keys, bass, and vocals, and Benji Brunner on lead guitar. Rock Melon sprung forth as a small Minnesotan indie band with heavy alternative influence as well as some classic rock and pop influences. By late 2021, Zach Nelson joined on bass and vocals, and by autumn 2022, Evan Hoglund joined on vocals and rhythm guitar, which completed the Rock Melon lineup. Shortly after the band was formed, their first single, "The Spark," was released, quickly gaining 2.5 thousand streams. At the very end of 2022, Rock Melon released another single, "Dinosaur Bones." The band has announced that their first album, "The Broken Record Collection," will be released on February 15, 2023.
Band name
The band's name has gone through three major changes. The original band name was Fyre, but was soon changed due to a resemblance to the Fyre Festival. Next, the band was called The Temporary Tendencies; this name lasted from late 2021 until the middle of 2022. Finally, the band was called Rock Melon, based on an inside joke, and because Rock Melon is a pun, as rock is their main genre.
