Biography[edit]

Roda Daher was born in 1964 in a district called Q7 in Djibouti City, Djibouti. She attended the public primary school in the same neighborhood. But in 1975, three years after her enrollment in school, when she was only 11 years old and only in class CE1, she suddenly abandoned the benches of the class and joined the young singers "OUBAX" or the "Flowers" of the African People's League for Independence (LPAI) of Q7. A certain Zahra Abu Yonis, then responsible for the “OUBAX” young girls, noticed the talents of this young girl and selected her. And she was allowed to participate with the young singers "OUBAX" in the various cultural events held in front of the headquarters of the LPAI in Q7 every Saturday evening. Thus began the artistic career of Roda Daher. On the eve of independence, in 1976, the family of Imam Daher Ismael moved from Q7 and settled in Kartileh district of Djibouti City. Roda joined the LPAI of this district and teamed up with Djiboutian stars including Kaltoun Bacado and Fatouma Haldhaa. During the vigil of the night of independence of June 27, 1977, the “OUBAX” of Kartileh district had sung in front of a huge crowd the songs entitled “SARAKACA SINMOO SARAKACA HAN SALAANO CALAKEENEE”. Two years after independence, on March 4, 1979, the LPAI became the RPP (Rassemblement Populaire pour le Progrès). So, in order to select them to retain only the best, all the "OUBAX" from the different districts of the capital were grouped together in the RPP of Q6 and Q4. Roda Daher was part of the list of singers chosen. The young “OUBAX” choristers, including Roda Daher, Kaltoun Bacado and Fatouma Ali, animated for some time the cultural events organized by RPP officials. Thereafter the "OUBAX" formed the Troupe 4 MARS. In 1983, a few months after its creation, Roda left the RPP Groupe and joined the Groupe Harbi of the national army. 5 years later, not supporting the harsh military training, she preferred to return to civilian life and joined the GACAN MACAAN troupe. The great Djiboutian musician Mohamed Hassan Moyaleh fell under the charms of Roda's fine and soft voice and invited him to take the stage with the DINKARA troupe during several concerts of this group at the Salines theater. She began to compose the melodies for her own account. Her lyricists, she chose them among the great ones namely Ibrahim Gadhlé, Omar Kuul, Caws, Ababé, Said Abno and Jallé. Today Roda lives in Kartileh district in Djibouti City with her 2 daughters.
