Rodderick William Dunlop.[1] QC is a prominent Scottish lawyer who has served as Dean of the Faculty of Advocates since 2020.[2]

Dunlop graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a Bachelor of Laws and a Diploma in Legal Practice.[3] He qualified as a solicitor in 1995 and worked for Drummond Miller WS.[3] He became an advocate in 1998 and was appointed Queens Counsel in 2010.[4]

Dunlop acted for the Scottish Government in Alex Salmond's successful judicial review in relation to an investigation into misconduct which was said to have occurred while Salmond serviced as First Minister of Scotland, in which Dunlop had advised the Scottish Government that they could not continue with their defence. In a rare step, the advice that he gave, along with Christine O'Neill, was later published by the Scottish Government.[5].

Dunlop also acted for former British Diplomat, Craig Murray, after Murray had been found in Contempt of Court over blog posts he had written about the trial of Alex Salmond.[6]

Dunlop also acted for David Whitehouse in his action against the Lord Advocate seeking damages for malicious prosecution[7]

Dunlop called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2019.[8]
