Rodrigo Doxandabarat, (born July 24, 1977 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a social entrepreneur, explorer, businessman and former argentine fashion model, originally from Bella Vista, Buenos Aires. He has modeled for fashion brands such as Lanvin, Versace, Pierre Cardin, Balli and Krizia, among others, walking the runway in countries including Italy, France, Japan, Spain, England and Germany. An occasional actor, he has also appeared in some of Zucchero Fornaciari’s videoclips and several TV commercials.

Early and Personal Life[edit]

After finishing high school at age 18 he set out a long overland solo journey, travelling on foot from Spain to China and back, spanning over 30 countries and becoming one of the youngest people to carry out this endeavor in such conditions. In Kolkata, India, he worked as a volunteer at Mother Teresa’s Kalighat Home for the Dying, where he lent a hand to those in need.

In 2003 he travelled to Iraq in the convoy of a British pacifist organization, Human shield action to Iraq, to act as human shield. Two days prior to the bombing of Iraq[1][2], he organized a demonstration with 3000 Iraqi children in front of Baghdad’s press office[3], where he provided the children with pencils and color balloons so that they could express their despair over the impending war. This action was widely covered by the media abroad, including CNN, among others. [4]

While in Iraq he also worked with french NGO, EMDH: Enfants du Monde Droits de l´Homme. His role as Communications Coordinator consisted in assisting Iraqi children orphaned by the war. During this time, he implemented a project funded by fashion house Strenesse, for the creation of a recreation area for orphaned children; this became his first experience at forging synergies between public and private sectors, and, more precisely between fashion and cooperation, being this his primary focus since an early age.[5]

Career[edit]

In 2005 he was hired by the ICEI – ISTITUTO COOPERAZIONE ECONOMICA INTERNAZIONALE in Argentina, who put him in charge of projects that supported vulnerable communities. During this same period, he implemented another social project mainly funded by Strenesse called Progetto Strenesse Rinforzo, which supported the construction of a community center in Barrio 8 de Mayo, José Leon Suarez, Provincia de Buenos Aires.[6]

Aside from his humanitarian work, Doxandabarat has occupied senior executive positions in international fashion houses such as Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Y3 –Adidas- and fashion designer Antonio Marras’, among others.

From 2007 to 2013, while working at Giorgio Armani Spa, he held the position of Commercial Director for the Middle East, Southeast Asia, China, India, part of Europe, Africa, South America and Caribbean regions. Upon the opening of regional offices in Latin America, he held the position of Group Regional Director with headquarters in São Paulo, Brazil, where he was then approached by Dolce e Gabbana to become one of the brand’s key pillars of growth in Latin America and the Caribbean.

From 2016 onwards Doxandabarat has been committed to carrying out a project that draws from his experiences in both international cooperation towards social good and fashion: an alternative business model that aims at maximizing synergies between public and private sectors. He is currently developing a crowdsourcing platform where artists, graphic designers and illustrators will be able to submit design proposals through an online, open innovation process. The proposals that get the highest scores will be chosen for a vegan shoe line that will be made with sustainable components and sold online. The artists will in return earn royalties for every pair of shoes that is sold. The shoes will be handmade in small cooperatives run by vulnerable communities.
