Rodrigo Camilo Rabello Fernandes is a Brazilian TV host..[1], filmmaker, writer, actor[2] and comedian[3]. He is also known as Jacaré Banguela[4], due to his comic blog of the same name.
His career as a humorist began in 2004, with the blog Jacaré Banguela, dedicated for the production of varied and comic content, related to daily life, entertainment and POP culture.
In 2009, the platform expanded, with the creation of the eponymous YouTube channel, which reunites his participations in TV programs, such as Fox Sports and Comedy Central, in addition to original web series, with personalities from the Brazilian entertainment industry. The channel also features some performances by Fernandes as a stand-up comedian, travel vlogs, as well as short films and other comic sketches produced for the platform.
Career on entertainment
In 2010, he made his debut on a Brazilian TV series called Vendemos Cadeiras, through the cable TV channel Multishow. He started his career in stand-up comedy in 2011. In 2012, he became one of the directors from the Brazilian version of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Rafinha Bastos. he directed comedy sketches, in addition to the Digital Shorts block.
Fernandes debuted in theaters in 2013, in the film Entrando Numa Roubada, directed by André Moraes and starred by Deborah Secco. He has participated in 15 national productions and starred in his first picture in 2020, in the North American movie Second Date[5]
Between 2014 and 2016, Fernandes was part of the stand-up TV show República do Stand-Up[6], from Comedy Central. He was also the host of Bloopers[7], a Brazilian comic show[8] shot in Argentina.
At the end of 2016, the comedian performed in New York and Boston, with the comedy company Os Melhores do Mundo[9]
Book Tinha Tudo Para Dar Certo Se Não Fosse Eu
As a writer, Fernandes published the book Tinha Tudo Para Dar Certo Se Não Fosse Eu![10]: Crônicas de uma Vida Amorosa de M...., release in 2017. The work is based on his own life experience and reunites 50 comical stories[11] of disastrous love encounters.
Mike Birbiglia: My Girlfriend's Boyfriend
In 2017, Fernandes started his tour with the stand-up special[12] O Namorado da Minha Namorada[13]. The monologue is based on the American show Mike Birbiglia: My Girlfriend's Boyfriend. The comedian acquired the adaptation rights with the artist in 2015.
The show[14] was directed by the Brazilian comedian Oscar Filho and it was performed around Brazil.
Harold Ramis Film School
Fernandes[15] was the first Brazilian student[16] in the history of the Harold Ramis Film School. The program belongs to The Second City University of Chicago, the largest comedy school in the United States, responsible for launching the careers of great comedians, such as Tina Fey, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bill Murray, Amy Poehler, Steve Carell, Bonnie Hunt, among others.
He was part of the 2019-2020 class, being also the first student in The Second City history to present a feature film, entitled Second Date[17], as his course completion work.
Second Date
The film is a comedy developed entirely through crowdfunding[18]. Released on December 31st, 2020, Second Date[19] was directed, scripted and starred by Fernandes. The comedy[20] was shot in 2020 in Chicago, during the Coronavirus pandemic.
