Roger d'Aubigny (Roger de Albini or Roger de Aubeny, died after 1084), was born in Saint-Martin-d'Aubigny, Cotentin, around the year 1036. He was a Norman knight and minor lord who was the son of William d'Aubigny and Albreda du Plessis. Roger was active in the generation preceding and succeeding the Norman Conquest, he was the father of William, ancestor of the Earls of Arundel, Nigel, who is the ancestor of the House of Mowbray, and Rualoc.
Life
Roger and his father William are reported to have fought as knights of William the Conqueror during the Battle of Hastings by the Battle Abbey Roll, however they are not noted in any contemporary sources. Roger and his son Rualoc were present as witnesses to a court charter dated around 1081 for King William. [1]
Family
Roger and his wife Amice or Avice Mowbray had at least three children. [2]
- William d'Aubigny died around 1139, father of William d'Aubigny, 1st Earl of Arundel.
- Nigel d'Aubigny died 21st November 1129, founder of the House of Mowbray.
- Rualoc d'Aubigny died presumably after his father.
