Roman Feral (born April 20, 1990) is a French-American artist and entrepreneur. He is known for his sculptures, combining suspended flying butterflies with selected icons from French luxury brands, such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Hermès, and Cartier.[1][2]

Chanel acquired Feral’s sculpture, titled Coffre Chanel Azur, making it part of its private art heritage collection. His sculptures have also been featured in The New York Times, Forbes, and Robb Report.[3][4][5]

Early life[edit]

Feral was born on April 20, 1990, in Paris, France, and is based in Miami, Florida.[1][3] Living his earliest years in Paris, French culture has inspired his art. He moved to the United States as a teenager and spent a year back in France to attend the Atelier de Sèvres art school.[6][7][8]

Career[edit]

Feral was first discovered in 2017 by the Opera Gallery Group, who featured his artworks in Eternity Gallery in Miami and Paris.[9]

In 2018, his first collection was exhibited at Art Basel.[4][10] Then, in 2019, Feral showcased his sculptures with Galeries Bartoux in Central Park, New York. This led to a worldwide expansion in over 18 galleries; such as Paris, London, Monaco, Miami, New York, Courchevel, Megeve, Cannes, Honfleur, and others.[2][11]

In 2020, the sculpture titled, "Chanel Azur" was acquired by Chanel’s patrimony director in Courchevel, France, and included in the maison’s heritage art collection.[9] Feral has also gained recognition for his Louis Vuitton collection, in which real butterflies are given the illusion to fly out of Louis Vuitton trunks.[3] He has also made artworks with other brands, including Dior, Hermes, Goyard, Campbells, and Cartier.[1][6] His first bronze sculptures, developed with Bocquel Art Foundry, are bronze butterflies resulting from more than 30 kilos of bronze and over 90 hours of hand polishing.[9][6]
