David Rome Bethea (born January 20, 1973), known professionally as Rome Bethea, is an American actor and activist from Detroit, Michigan. After his television debut in a commercial [1]for Labor for Bernie (2020), Bethea achieved wider recognition for his outspoken, direct approach to activism. political commentary, and community engagement.
Political Work and Programs[edit]
Rome Bethea was an activist and organizer for Senator Bernie Sanders 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns, traveling on behalf of the campaign to various cities. An ad produced by Rainy Day Pictures, written and directed by John-Michael Damato released Feb 2020[2], "How do we take on greed? We build a movement. We do it with organized labor," featured Rome Bethea as the primary voice-over talent with images of his likeness.
In 2020, Rome Bethea lead a counter protest[3] on May 20, 2020 with former Chicago Congressional candidate, Anthony Clark to Michigan's state capital in Lansing after alleged white supremacists and Trump supporters protested[4] the Governor's stay at home order.
Bethea hosted a political talk show on the Digital Liberation Network, called, "Rome's Rebellion," which aired 18 episodes, included a one-hour interview[5] with Green Party Vice Presidential Candidate, Angela Nicole Walker, which aired on February 21, 2021.
Activism[edit]
In March 202, Rome Bethea began organizing community events to provide food, clothing, and necessities to homeless community members and those in need. The first event was organized in Detroit, Michigan and featured on local affiliate Fox News Detroit 2 on March 13, 2021.
The second event announced on a morning show, "Hair of the Dog" was called, "The Tour for the Poor" occurred on March 15, 2021 in Tallahassee, Florida with the third planned for Ohio and fourth in Washington, D.C. in June 2021.
Religion and Atheism[edit]
Raised as a Baptist Christian, Rome Bethea is an avowed atheist and administrator of the Facebook atheist group with over 43,000 members. Bethea was interviewed [6]on November 1, 2017 by Canadian Atheist publisher Scott Douglas Jacobsen who also founded In-Sight Publishing[7].
