Romina Ashrafi

Romina Ashrafi (Persian:رومینا اشرفی August 15, 1385 - May 31, 2019) was a 14-year-old Iranian teenage girl from Talish, whose father killed her. Before her death, she ran away from home with her boyfriend due to her family's opposition to her marriage, but the police arrested her and handed her over to her father.[1][2][3] Her murder brought many reactions on social networks. News of the murder was published on a number of local messaging channels on June 1.[4] Romina's funeral was held on Monday June 5th at her grandfather's house in Sefidsangan village. According to some sources, her father had killed her with a machete after consulting with his son-in-law, who is a lawyer, and after knowing that in the Islamic Penal Code, there is no retribution. According to the lawyer of Romina's mother, the head of the court asked Reza Ashrafi "If you believed that your honor was tarnished, why didn't you kill Bahman Khavari? ... Is this the behavior of a father with his child?" And Reza Ashrafi replied: "If I killed Bahman, I would be avenged."[5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]

On September 7, 2019, Romina Ashrafi's mother announced that her daughter's killer was sentenced to 9 years in prison. Rana Dashti, Romina's mother, said that this court verdict "has brought fear and terror to my life and my family." She also expressed her concern for her and her son's safety and said that she no longer wants her husband to return to the village (Safid Sangan Lemir) and stated: "In this short period of time, my wife's family has threatened me and my young child many times and despite the fact that they have the necessary qualifications Romina's mother added that "if her husband does not take revenge, he should be imprisoned or exiled, because otherwise there is no security for him and his family". He also sentenced Bahman Khavari to 2 years in prison. Finally, Romina's mother said, "I object to this decision and want to appeal to the Supreme Court of the country." Gilan prosecutor confirmed this sentence hours later.

Romina Ashrafi fell in love with a 28-year-old boy named Bahman Khavari before she was 13 years old. Apparently, Romina's father (Reza Ashrafi) was against their marriage due to the cultural (religious) difference between the two families. On May 28, 1399, Romina escaped with Bahman Khavari, but a day later, her family filed a complaint under the title of "kidnapping" in the courthouse, which led to legal prosecution and their arrest. According to Romina's aunt, in order to convince Romina to return, they send her a message that her father agrees with her marriage. Based on this, the Khavari family prepares a wedding table, but at the appointed time, Reza Ashrafi arrives there with the police. According to local people, Romina did not want to return home due to the fear of her life and familiarity with her father's moods, but the police Unnecessarily and according to the rules, he handed him over to his father.
