Rony Vartio (born 20 April 1989, Espoo) best known by his stage name Rony Rex, is a Finnish electronic music artist, DJ, producer, promoter, and radio host based in Helsinki.

Career[edit]

Vartio began DJing as Rony Rex in 2013, and in 2014, he was voted as the best rising DJ in Finland.[1] In the following years, he would perform in a number of major Finnish festivals such as Flow Festival[2], Weekend Festival[3], Provinssi[4] and Ruisrock[5]. Alongside, he would promote his own club events Floorluv (2011–2014), Lasermehu (2015-), and Talli (2017-2019).[6][7]

Rony Rex made his debut music release in 2017 with the single ‘’Sticky Fingers’’ on the Oulu-based electronic music label Youth Control. He would later collaborate with artists like Carla Monroe on ‘’Milk It’’ in 2019, Girli on ‘’Cold Feet’’ in 2020, GFOTY on ‘’Mile High’’ in 2020, SACRE on ‘’Awake Me’’ in 2021, and TT The Artist on ‘’Heat’’ and ''Direct Me'' in 2022.[8]

Since 2019, Vartio’s music has been featured in a number of international ad campaigns and other media, for example Nickelodeon’s 2020 Kid’s Choice awards spot[9], Stella McCartney Paris Fashion Week show 2020, and two Yves Saint Laurent makeup campaigns in 2021 and 2022 respectively.[10] His song ''Milk It'' was also featured in Love Island UK 2021 and the 2022 Netflix limited series Inventing Anna.[11]

Vartio would host his own electronic music show on an independent Finnish radio station Bassoradio from 2016 to 2018.[12] In 2018, he left Bassoradio and joined the Finnish Broadcasting Company’s YleX station to host a weekly club music focused show.[13]
