Ronzo Cartwright
Ronzo “The Beast” Cartwright is an American vocalist, performer, and songwriter best known as the lead vocalist of the Nashville-based rap-rock groups The Hard Corps and Stone Deep.
In 1991, Cartwright’s first single, “Hard Corps”,[1] from his first release, The Hard Corps’ Def Before Dishonor, was the first track to ever chart simultaneously on MTV’s Headbangers Ball[2] and Yo! MTV Raps.[3] “Def Before Dishonor” was co-produced by RUN-DMC’s Jam Master Jay and Joe "The Butcher" Nicolo.[4] That year, The Hard Corps was named “Best Independent Artist” by the Nashville Music Awards,[5] and in 1995, Stone Deep received the same honor.[6] The Hard Corps and Stone Deep are the only non-country artists ever awarded the honor.[6] In 1996, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the Grammy Showcase named Stone Deep the “Best Unsigned Artist in The United States.”[7]
Stone Deep reunited and began performing and releasing music again after going on hiatus in 1999.[8]
The Hard Corps' Def Before Dishonor has been remastered by Shawn Franklin and will be reissued in 2024.[9]
