Ropari Sheikhs[edit]

Ropari Sheikh is a business Sheikh community of Tehsil Ropar East Punjab. Sheikhan Mohalla Ropar is named after the same community. Ropari Sheikhs claim to be Abbasi and descendants of Abbas bin Abdul Muttalib. This community also named Kakkay Sheikhs or Kakkay Abbasi. After partition, the community settled in West Punjab specially in Lahore, Sheikhupura and Faisalabad.

Sheikhian Mohalla[edit]

Sheikhian Mohalla / Shekhian Mohalla or spelled Shekhan Mohalla also named Chowk Abbasia is ancient municipality around it the modern city of Ropar/Rupnagar is built. It is situated near the bank of River Sutlej in the Sirhind region of Punjab.[1] Before partition it was home to a Muslim clan by the name of Kakkay Abbasi, also known Kakkay Sheikhs of Ropar. [2] In 1947 this Muslim population migrated to Pakistan. Now it is in the center of Ropar/Rupnagar city, made up of largely Hindu and Sikh population. [3]

Sheikh Abbasia Mosque[edit]

Sheikh Abbasia Mosque or Masjid Shekhan wali[4] belongs to Ropari Sheikh Community. It is in possession of Punjab Waqaf Board Ropar. Punjab Waqaf Board Ropar[5] located on second portion of Mosque. Building of Mosque needs maintainance. It is located opposite of Ropar Vegitable Bazar (Sabji Mandi). Muslim traders from other parts of India visit this mosque for worship and accommodation and named it Jamat Masjid.
