Ruben Licera Jr

Ruben Batiancila Licera (born May 17, 1980) is a blogger,[1] digital marketer[2] and social media consultant[3] from Cebu Philippines.[4]

As a blogger, Licera is one of the Anti-Cybercrime Law advocates in Cebu.[5] He is active in social media-related discussions in Cebu.[6][7]

In 2013, he organized the first Social Media Influencers Summit (Philippines),[8] and is the front runner of Social Good Summit Cebu.[9] In 2014, he was awarded as the "Social Media Advocate" and the "Blogger of the Year" by Cebu Media Excellence Awards.[10][11][12]

Personal life[edit]

Ruben Licera is married to Iren Sangre-Licera, with whom he has two children.

Education[edit]

Licera graduated AB Journalism from University of the Visayas and Masters in Business Administration from Southwestern University (Philippines).

Career[edit]

He started his career as an advertising specialist for a manila-based advertising agency in 2002. In 2004, he was hired full-time as Marketing Specialist for International Advertising and Public relations for Cebu International Furniture and Furnishings Exhibition.[13][14][15][16][17]

Cebu Barter Community[18][19][edit]

In efforts of helping Filipinos, specially Cebuano's combat anxiety and provide other means to promote self-care, Ruben and his colleagues started Cebu Barter Community.[20][21]

Cebu Barter Community (CBC) got the local and national attention after it established itself as an independent online platforms for netizens to extend help to others who are in need.[22][23]

The said Facebook group is currently suspending its operations to support the governments action as Cebu City is under Enhanced Community Quaratine (ECQ) and its nearby cities in General Community Quarantien (GCQ) due to COVID-19 pandemic.[24]

Cebu Blogging Community[edit]

In 2014, Licera, together with Bjornson Bernales, Channel Imperial, Gay Aida Dumaguing and Mary Narvasa, started Cebu Blogging Community. With this organization, they have organized the Cebu Blogging Summit—an annual event where they showcase bloggers' experiences.

Google Developers Group (GDG) Cebu[edit]

Licera is the first Google Developers Group (GDG) Cebu - Community Manager. Through the community, Licera was able to organize the following events:

  • GDG Devfest Cebu (2012, 2013, 2014)
  • Google I/O Extended Cebu (2012, 2013, 2014)[25]
  • Google MapUp Cebu[26]
  • Software Freedom Day Cebu[27]

Licera had helped to organize the first GDG Devfest, Crisis Mapping on Typhoon Yolanda, and Cebu-Bohol Earthquake Situationer Crisis Mapping.

Cebu Bloggers Society, Inc.[edit]

Licera had served for more than 4 years, in different capacities, the southern Philippines blogging society Cebu Bloggers Society. During his term he had organized the following:

  • Social Good Summit - Cebu[34]
