Ruben van Schalm.[1](Hebrew: רובן ואן שחלם[2] (born 12 May 1988) is a Dutch photographer and author. His work, particularly his black-and-white photographs of the human male form and its close photographic relation to the natural world, has been recognized and exhibited internationally. He is also listed as an acknowledge photographer by the RKD - Nederlands Instituut voor Kunstgeschiedenis (Dutch Institute for Art History).[3]

Early life[edit]

Van Schalm was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and grew up in Amsterdam before moving to Tel Aviv.

Career and collaborations[edit]

He began his career in photography in 2012. His work, particularly his black-and-white photographs of the human male form and its close photographic relation to the natural world, has been recognized and exhibited internationally. His publication, Paradise, is included in the Rijksmuseum Research Library in Amsterdam.[4][5].The book, a limited edition of 500 copies, depicts a place overruled by the elements of nature with man at its center. It includes black & white and color images from series that van Schalm has made in the Philippines, French Polynesia, and Israel.[4] The book has received favorable reviews.[6][7][8][9][10]

Van Schalm's collaborations further underline his standing in the artistic field. He has worked with internationally recognized photographers such as Erwin Olaf[11] and Christopher Makos[12], underlining his recognition within the artistic community and his contributions to the field.
