Rudolf Michael (born May 6 1890 in Hamburg; died 30 July 1980) was a German journalist and politician.

Life[edit]

His parents were Paul Michael and Auguste Ziegler. He had one brother. Michael went to school at Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums in Hamburg. He studied German law and philosophy at university in Halle, in Kiel and in Berlin befor World War I. In 1912 his parents and brother emigrated to United States. Michael stayed alone in Germany. In 1913 Michael wrote articles for German newspaper Hamburger Fremdenblatt. Durings World War I Michael was soldier. 1917 Michael married Käthe Francis Hoppe (born 1895). They had together one son Hans-Joachim (born 1921). After World War I Michael got a job at German newspaper Hamburgischer Correspondent. Since 1924 Michael was editor-in-chief at Hamburgischer Correspondent. Michael was member of German politician party German People's Party (DVP). In 1924, he became a member of Hamburg Parliament for DVP. Since 1930 Michael worked again for German newspaper Hamburger Fremdenblatt. He left in 1930 Hamburg Parliament. In 1930, Michael made a world tour to Egypt, Sinapure, Hongkong, Japan, Shanghai and Peking. He published a book with the title "Roman einer Weltreise" over this world tour. In March 1946 Michael met German journalist Axel Springer. He worked for him and the newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt.[1] From 1952 to 1958 Michael was editor-in-chief for Springer newspaper Bild.[2][3]
