Run in Red, stylised as RUN iN RED, is an Irish indie rock band from Dublin, Ireland. The band is composed of Neil Russell (vocals, acoustic guitar), Jim Hutcheon (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Paul McGonagle (drums and percussion).[1] As of June 2018 the band are playing shows in Dublin and are to release the single "Fade Away" from their second EP, Undercover, Overthrown and make their debut headline show in The Sound House.

History

The band was formed in mid-2016 in Dublin. They have been a frequent act in the Irish underground music scene.[2]

They released their first EP, The Revelled Theory Mind, independently in 2017.[3] The recording received airplay on pandora radio in the United States, Australia and New Zealand.[4] In November, their debut single "I'll Fade Away" was featured on 93.9 Dublin South FM's new music radio programme, New Vibrations Show, hosted by Dave Sihra.[5]

During 2017 they played more than 20 shows in and around Dublin,[6] including at Whelan's in the city centre.[7] In June that year they played select gigs in the US for their first time in North America.[8]

In early 2018 they played the "Ones to Watch" gig sponsored by Radio Nova and Hop House 13 at the Purty Kitchen in Dun Laoghaire.[9][10] Later in the year they performed at The Workmans Club in Dublin for the Gigonometry 4th Birthday event[11][12] and played a headline set at The Grand Social music venue on the River Liffey.

Run in Red were listed as a finalist for Sin e's Crystal Skull Sessions, and performed a headline show at the transatlantic venue on 1 June 2018.[13]

Musical style

Run in Red have been described as a 3-piece trans-atlantic band.[14][15] Zuzanna Piasek of the style magazine The Sharpe wrote: "Their music will spring some new sounds to your ears and has a similar feel to the likes of Imagine Dragons."[15]

Their sound has been described as "a pure 90s sound ...the chorus [of 'The Ricochet'] is something that you could definitely imagine yourself roaring back to the band in a big sing-a-long."[16] The music journalist podcast Into the Echo categorized Run in Red's music as having a raw sound, with a distant and ethereal quality evocative of Radiohead or The Shins.[17]

Discography

Extended Play

The first two singles from The Revelled Theory Mind, "I'll Fade Away" and "The Ricochet", were given extensive radio play on local Irish stations.[18]

  • Undercover, Overthrown (2018)

The band's second EP, for which they were in studio in March 2018,[8] is Undercover, Overthrown; it was recorded at Sound Training Production Studios in the Temple Bar district of Dublin by engineer Colm Drennan.[19] Run in Red are scheduled to make their debut headline appearance at The Sound House in Dublin to celebrate the release of the single "Fade Away" on 29 June.[19][20]
