Rupert Lee-Browne is an investor and entrepreneur in technology businesses; the founder, Chief Executive and Chairman of Caxton FX, a UK-based business focused on financial technology, currency and international payments. 

Education and early career[edit]

Lee-Browne was born and raised in Gloucestershire. After attending a local comprehensive school and Malvern Boy's College in Worcestershire, he went on to University of London to study History of Art under Ernst Gombrich.[1][2] His early career was in advertising and media, starting with a role at Chris Ingram Associates as a TV media buyer and planner.[2] His work with media companies led him to BBC Enterprises where he worked on the launch of UK Gold,[3] and on to Daily Mail General Trust where he established a cross-media platform for the London Evening Standard, Channel One and early-stage internet publishing for the newspaper.[4]

In 1998, Lee-Browne invested in and co-founded the dotcom business EggsBenefit.com along with Mogens Tholstrup, then-owner of the Signature Group of Restaurants. The company was sold to Eskye.com for an undisclosed sum in 2001.[5][6]

Caxton FX[edit]

In 2002, Lee-Browne started Caxton FX Ltd, a currency and payments company.[7] With an investment of £25,000, he grew the company from one man and a telephone to a business turning over £1bn.[8][9] During his time at Caxton he has been regularly quoted in the media on currency and wider market issues.

Lee-Browne launched the first Euro currency prepaid card in 2007 [10], an innovative retail bond to raise funds on a peer-to-peer basis in 2011[11][12], and developed blockchain technology to replace APIs.[13][9][14] In 2017, the European Digital Banking Club named Lee-Browne as one of the Digital Banking Power 50[15]

He is a regular guest on national and international news programmes [16][17][18] speaking predominantly on currency matters as well as being quoted regularly in the offline and online media [19][20][21][22][23] Lee-Browne also speaks at business conferences to talk about starting and running a fast-growing company as well as fintech issues. [24][25]He has been a regular speaker at the Goldman Sachs 10k Small Business programme. [26]Lee-Browne was a judge on 2017 Women in Finance and The British Small Business Grants. [27][28]

Personal Life[edit]

Lee-Browne is married with one son and lives in Chelsea, London.[29][30]
