Rusudan Bulusashvili (8 May 1928, Tbilisi — 8 June, 2021) was a Georgian physician, morphologist, histochemist, one of the first founders of Electron Microscopy Research Department in Georgia, doctor of medical sciences, and professor.

Early life and education[edit]

Rrusudan Bulusashvili was born in Tbilisi on 8 May, 1928 to Vladimer Bulusashvili and Penelope Theophylactus.

From 1934 to 1945, Bulusashvili studied at the Secondary School in Tbilisi, after which she studied at the medical faculty of Tbilisi State Medical Institute, finishing in 1951. In 1955, she did her PhD course in medicine and defended her candidate's thesis in Tbilisi and Moscow on the topic of "The role of the nervous system in the development of induced cancer". In 1968, she defended her doctoral thesis on the topic, "Histochemical features of induced tumors”.

Career[edit]

From 1955 to 1963, Bulusashvili worked as a junior research doctor, then as a senior research doctor at the Scientific and Clinical Research Centre of Surgery of Georgia until 1968, after which she became a professor of morphology.

In 1970, in order to improve research results in diagnostics including the patients’ treatment, Bulusashvili initiated the necessity of introduction of an advanced research techniques using electronic microscopy. In 1973, at the Centre of Surgery of Georgia, she founded and successfully implemented and became the head of the new department of electron microscopy.

Bulusashvili is the author of 90 scientific works and 2 monographs related to surgery and cancer growth issues. She participated and was a speaker of Morphology and Histochemistry symposiums and congresses In European countries as well as in the USSR.

Death[edit]

Bulusashvili died June 8, 2021, at her home in Tbilisi.[1]

Personal life[edit]

Bulusashvili wed Luarsab Sharashidze in 1954; the couple was married until his death in 1991. They had two children: Manana and Maya Sharashidze.
