Ruth Prince
Ruth Prince (September 1930 - December 1998) was the second wife of Bible teacher Derek Prince.[1]
Life
Born Myrtle Elaine Hemmingson in South Dakota, to Einer Helene Hemmingson and Gladys Marie Honeywell, she was the eighth of ten children.
She grew up during the Depression and attended a Lutheran church in Michigan, concluding at that time that religion had nothing to offer her.
She joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 20 and attained the rank of sergeant.
She married Allen Baker, a Jewish fellow Marine, while still in her twenties, and converted to Judaism, taking the name 'Ruth'. The couple adopted four children, one of whom died.
Eventually the couple divorced, and Prince became a single parent, raising her children while working part-time and studying for a degree. She later had a job as a Manpower Administrator for the State of Maryland.
She converted to Christianity, and moved with her youngest daughter to Israel in the 1970s, after becoming convinced that this was God's will.
She met Derek Prince in Israel, and they married in 1978. They lived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Jerusalem, Israel, and Ruth Prince was a full partner in Derek Prince Ministries.[1][2]
Death
Ruth Prince died in Jerusalem aged 68, after a relatively short illness.[3]
