Rutshelle Guillaume (born July 28, 1988) is a Haitian singer, actress and entrepreneur. Born and raised in Port Au Prince, Haiti, she began making music after finding her passion for singing at her church as a child. Her musical career took off with her first album Emotions (2014) which featured notable songs "Wale" and "Kite m Kriye".

She quickly rose to fame after her collaboration with KAI on their song Kanse (2017). She then released her second solo album “Rebelle” (2018) which contained singles “Denye Won” and “Rendez-vous Au Sommet”.

After a hiatus she released her third solo album “Quoi Qu'il Advienne (2021) which spawned successful singles, “Rete La”, “M pa la anko” and “All on me”. Quoi Qu'il Advienne is her most successful and versatile album to date with a combination of Kompa, Afrobeats and Ballads.

Rutshelle has become the most successful female Haitian artist of her time and has coined the title “Queen of Kompa” by her fans and peers.

Biography[edit]

Rutshelle was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and sang in her father's church, in Les Cayes, South, Haiti. Her father, Louis Destinval, was a pastor born in Les Cayes and headed the "Dieu de Boulard" church. Her mother was born in Anse-à-Veau. Rutshelle Guillaume has two brothers.[1]

In 2007, Rutshelle joined REL, a music band of young students at the Ecole Nationale des Arts (ENARTS). In 2008, she started studying philosophy at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure (ENS) and received a bachelor's degree.

She participated in a training of vocal techniques organized at the Foundation for Knowledge and Freedom (FOKAL) by Émeline Michel, Stevenson Théodore and James Germain.

From 2009 to 2011, she was enrolled as Philosophy teacher at College Bird (Port-au-Prince).

Career[edit]

In 2010, after a collaboration with Harry Dumonay, AKA Doc Filah a famous Haitian rapper, with the title “Trèv pou amoni”, was on the album Akrilik sou twal rezon. After this success, the Haitian singer BIC, invited her in March 2010, to the song “Mesi ti cheri doudou", available on the artist album Kreyòl chante, Kreyòl konprann Vol II.

Rutshelle Guillaume's professional musical career began in 2013 with the music video for “Kite m kriye”  from her debut album Emotions released  May 24, 2014.

Her second album, Rebelle, was released on June 30, 2017.[2]

In July 2021, she released her third studio album, Quoi Qu’il Adviennewhich spawned hits Rete La, M pa la anko, and All on me. Quoi Qu'il Advienne turned out to be Rutshelle's most successful album to date. .[3][4]

In November 2021, Rutshelle hosted her own Visual Album performance "QQA Live Experience" which received high acclaim for quality and innovative approach as no one in the Haitian Music Industry had done before.

She has been a frequent collaborator with other big name Haitian artists, including Roody Roodboy, Kai, Fantom, Vanessa Desiré, Phylissia Ross, Oswald, Gabel, Wendyyy and Salatiel

Rutshelle made her lead acting debut in the Haitian film "Vakans" released in 2022 directed by Dominique Telemarque.

In February 2019, Rutshelle Guillaume launched her brand[5], RG Collections who proposed a handbag collection and a swimsuit.[6]

Rutshelle is the founder and owner of RG Luxe Beauty, a cosmetics brand.
