Ryan Anthony is an American rapper, recording engineer, philanthropist, and entrepreneur from the Spring Valley county of San Diego, California. He is currently known for his clothing line, Barely See The Beach and San Diego anthem, Da[Y]go and Da[Y]go 2.[2]

Early life

Ryan Anthony grew up in Spring Valley and attended school in Paradise Hills.[3] Anthony made his first beat in 6th grade. In middle school is the time when he first started saying he wanted to be a music producer. Anthony had no idea where the inspiration came from but his cousin had Fruity Loops allowing Ryan to download it. From there he started figuring out how to make beats, he would then take them to school and play them in the PE locker room to let his friends listen.[4] Growing up, Ryan was "fascinated" by the hood but was not involved in gang activity himself.[5]

Career

As a part of Strange Music's rap group P.W.D. - Psych Ward Druggies[6] consisting of artist Golden Boy, Strikes, Ryan Bowers, Kehlani, Hero, Don Druggie and P Blanco Deville. Ryan Anthony - then performing under the name "Sir Ryan Anthony" performed on Nick Cannon's Wild 'n Out[7] during his ten year in the group this is where he premiered "Barely Seen The Beach".[8][9] December 26, 2016 - NBC 7 San Diego listed Ryan Anthony's single, "Never Been" featuring Mitchy Slick as San Diego's number three best Hip-Hop release of 2016.[10][11] On March 16, 2021, to promote his new project, Barely See The Beach 3, Ryan released the lead single "Southeast Summers"[12] featuring Golden Globe winner, Oscar and Grammy nominee, Andra Day and Mitchy Slick.[13][14][15] In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Day mentioned Anthony as a prominent figure from San Diego and her neighborhood.[16]

Barely See The Beach Clothing

Ryan started making clothes that resembled his music. The prominent San Diego streetwear clothing brand was built out of the trunk his car, it was then turned it into a delivery service, Anthony personally delivers any merch that people want to purchase. Anthony gave more context to the name meaning stating, the phrase Barely See The Beach is a representation of the inner cities of San Diego. In the meaning of the phrase Barely See The Beach, “The Beach” represents paradise: the calm feeling of your feet sinking into the sand of the shore, as the waves sway back and forth against them, while the salty winds of the ocean breeze surround you and put you at peace.[17]

Philanthropy

Partnered with Paving Great Futures[18], yearly, Anthony does a backpack and school supply drive for the youth.[19][20][21]
