Ryan Vona
Ryan Vona is an American actor, singer, and musician based in New York City. He is known for his work on Broadway in productions including Once, Cirque du Soleil's Paramour, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, and Parade. He currently performs as the Phantom in Masquerade, an immersive Off-Broadway reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera in New York City.[1]
Early life and education
Vona was born and raised in Newton, Massachusetts.[2] He studied at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Pennsylvania State University, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London.[2]
Career
Broadway
Vona made his Broadway debut in Once, the Tony Award-winning musical, playing the role of Andrej as a replacement cast member.[3] He went on to originate the role of Joey Montgomery in Cirque du Soleil's Paramour at the Lyric Theatre.[3] He subsequently joined the cast of Beautiful: The Carole King Musical at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.[3] Most recently on Broadway, Vona served as standby for Leo Frank in the Tony Award-winning revival of Parade at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre in 2023.[3]
Off-Broadway and regional theatre
Vona has performed extensively in regional theatre. His notable credits include playing Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar at Connecticut Repertory Theatre, directed by Terrence Mann; the world premiere of The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical at La Jolla Playhouse, directed by Christopher Ashley, and its subsequent production at Signature Theatre in Washington, D.C.; and Love in Hate Nation at Two River Theater.[4][2] He has also appeared Off-Broadway in The Streets of New York at the Irish Repertory Theatre.[4]
International
In September 2025, Vona made his European stage debut, taking the title role of Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar at the Komische Oper Berlin, performing in Hangar 4 of Tempelhof Airport in a large-scale production featuring five hundred other artists.[5][2]
Masquerade (2026)
In January 2026, Vona joined the Off-Broadway production of Masquerade, an immersive reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera directed by Diane Paulus and staged across six floors of a bespoke venue at 218 West 57th Street in Manhattan.[1] The production features multiple performers sharing the role of the Phantom nightly across separate audience groups.[6] Vona joined fellow Phantoms including Nik Walker, Telly Leung, Hugh Panaro, Kyle Scatliffe, Clay Singer, and Quentin Earl Darrington.[1] Both Vona and Walker are alumni of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting.[7]
Music
Vona is also a singer-songwriter. In 2016 he released his debut album, Somebody, featuring collaborators from the Once cast including Morphine saxophonist Dana Colley.[8] He has performed as a guest artist with symphony orchestras including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, South Dakota Symphony, and at the Grand Teton and Lake Area Music Festivals.[2][9]
