Sól Ey (born 1996) is an Icelandic composer and artist.

Biography[edit]

Sól Ey grew up in Reykjavik. She played the cello from an early age, moving her focus to electronic music in her teens. She studied composition at the Iceland University of the Arts and at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague, where she completed her bachelor degree in 2021.[1] She was a research fellow at the Academy for Theater and Digitality in 2022, where she was working on a wearable speaker instrument called Hreyfð. The instrument creates audio feedback with movement, sensors and microphones.[2]

Career[edit]

Sól Ey's works have been presented at such as Nordic Music Days, Rewire festival, Reykjavik Art Festival, Dark Music Days, NEXT festival, Today’s Art, Gaudeamus, Ung Nordisk Musik and Nuuk Nordic Culture Festival.[3]

She has described her working methods in groups as "coming together in a space, trying things out, and experimenting… It’s about spending time together, not necessarily with a goal or purpose, and not being afraid to try out and fail."[4]

Sól Ey's works include interactive elements. In the work Tocar, where physical contact between two people creates sounds that seem to come from the body itself.[5]
