Srimadh Bhagavatam Chakravarthy (July 26, 1944 – Sep 17, 2002) was an Indian professor and administrator who served as the 2nd Vice Chancellor of the National Sanskrit University. Raghunathacharya received the president's award for his contribution to the Sanskrit literature from the then President of India, A.P.J. Kalam in 2002.[1] He served as the Vice-Chancellor of National Sanskrit University, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh between the years 1994 and 1999.

Writing and works[edit]

Based on his PhD work, Means of Valid Cognition According to Nyaya and Mīmāṃsā[2] this book is a critical study of the Vedic texts.

Saptapadi 1985[3] - Detailed description and significance of various aspects and events conducted by the priest during Indian wedding ceremonies.

Manasamasyalaku Bhagavadgita Parishkaralu[4] picks highlights of Bhagavadgita and calls out how they apply to problems and solutions in our daily lives.

Sakala Devata Puja Vidhanam Telugu Vivaranamu.[5] This book is a prescribed text for the students who are appearing for exams to take up priesthood in the South Indian temples in Andhra Pradesh.

Bharatheeya Samksriti[6] - A book detailing a unique perspective on Indian Culture and Traditions.

Sri Venkateswara Swami Brahmotsavams[7] - Every year the Tirumala_Tirupati_Devasthanams celebrates Srivari_Brahmotsavam and this book discusses the significance of the various events that constitute the week long celebrations.

Sri Venkateswara Stothra Vanamala[8] - Praises of the Lord Sri Venkateswara.

Arsha Vignana Sarvasvamu Modati Samputamu[9] - This is volume one of the three part series that attempts to translate the knowledge from the Vedas from Sanskrit language to Telugu.

Awards[edit]

  • President of India's Award[1] - A scheme for the award of the Certificate of Honour was introduced in the year 1958 to honor the scholars of Sanskrit, Arabic and Persian Languages. The scheme was extended to cover Pali/Prakrit in year 1996. The distinction is conferred on the eve of Independence Day every year in recognition of the outstanding contribution of various scholars of eminence in the field of Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian or Pali/Prakrit. This scheme envisages a monetary grant of Rs. 50,000/- per annum for life, apart from a sanad and a shawl, which is presented by the President to each awardee. There are 15 awards for Sanskrit, 3 each for Arabic and Persian and one for Pali/Prakrit under the Scheme.
  • Ved Vyas Award Union Minister of India, Murali Manohar Joshi 2001[12] - The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday gave away National Awards in various disciplines to eminent scholars around the country. The Ved Yyas National Sanskrit award for the year 2001 was given to Prof. S.B. Rahunathacharya by the then Minister for Human Resources Development, Murali Manohar Joshi. The award was instituted to promote quality teaching and research in Sanskrit.
  • Sivananda Eminent Citizen Award (1994) - inaugural recipient[13]
  • Ugadi Telugu Puraskar Award - Celebrating the accomplishments of Telugu people, this award was established by the Madras Telugu Academy and presented to Raghunathacharya for his contributions to the Sanskrit literature.[14]
