Sanika Kulkarni is an upcoming young talented classical vocalist. She represents the third generation of her family into music. Music is synonymous with her family from her great grandfather – Pt. Raghunatrao Kulkarni who was among the first few disciples of Pt.Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. Her grandfather Pt. Vinayakrao Kulkarni also a music exponent established and also was the ‘Acharya’ of the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Amritsar. The legacy further continued with Sanika’s father and his guru – Pt. Rajan Kulkarni. Pt. Rajan Kulkarni himself is a sarod maestro, and has travelled world for his concerts. Apart from this he is also the director of ‘Sarang Sangeet Vidyalaya’, which teaches all Indian instruments. Hence Sanika’s childhood was amongst such a environment which eventually lead to her taking music as his passion and career.
About Sanika[edit]
Sanika started listening to music as early as a child could. These music listenings motivated Sanika to gain formal training in classical vocal at a very tender age of 5. Sanika has been training under the guidance of her father - Pt. Rajan Kulkarni. Being a bright child she could grasp the nuances of music very effectively. Her dedication and handwork led her to completed her Visharad at a very young age of 17. Sanika considers herself blessed to have born in family having such a musical environment. Further Sanika has been trained under the guidance of her idol and an exponent and doyen of Indian Classical Music – late Vidushi Veena Sahasrabuddhe from the past 9 years. The trainings under Vidushi Veena tai have led her to learn the fine techniques and nuances of Gwalior gayaki - swar lagaav, presentation of bandishis, raag vistaar, meend, gamak, expression of raag etc. She has also learned the intricate taraana’s specially in taal ada chautaal and various bhajan’s from Veena tai. Her dedication, passion and riyaaz gives her command over her voice and hence can display all the aspects a fine vocalist should have.
