SAUL is an American heavy metal band from Sutherland, Iowa, formed in 2007. It is the brainchild of brothers Blake and Zach Bedsaul who got their exposure to music early on. They began their musical journey in a cover band titled "Sequoia". They then began SAUL in 2007 with previous drummer Jon. In addition to the Bedsauls, SAUL's lineup includes William McIlravy (Bass Guitar/Backup Vocals) and Joe Nichols (Drums).

History[edit]

After many years of building a name for themselves locally in the American Midwest, SAUL spent most of 2017-2018 focused on tuning their sound and producing its first EP, which later debuted in spring 2019 (AEONS).[1] The album's headline track, Brother,[2][3] is the embodiment of the band's message and purpose. Brother was born out of personal experience and tells the tale of loss and the emotional rollercoaster that comes with the coping process.

After exposure on the SXM Octane Test Drive (winter 2019), Brother's popularity grew to the point where it became a regular in Octane's rotation.[4][5] It was also featured as a SiriusXM Octane Accelerator as a recognized up-and-comer. The song peaked at number twenty on the Billboard 40.[6]

Musical style, influences, and lyrical themes[edit]

SAUL's musical style draws influence from Heavy metal, Hard rock, Progressive rock Alternative metal, and Nu metal. With lyrics based on personal experiences, chaotic and turbulent melodies, SAUL considers early 1990's acts like Tool and Pearl Jam, as well as contemporaries such as Nothing More as sources of inspiration.
