SEP (Social Enterprise Project), also known as SEP the brand, is a fashion brand specializing in hand-embroidered keffiyehs and lifestyle accessories, founded in 2014 by Roberta Ventura and Stefano D'Ambrosio.[1] The company operates as a certified B Corporation.[2] As of 2025, SEP works primarily with refugee artists based in Jerash camp ("Gaza camp") in Jordan.[3] SEP products blend Levantine craftsmanship with Italian design aesthetics.
History
SEP was founded in 2014 by Roberta Ventura, inspired by her long-term involvement with Palestinian refugee camps in Jordan. The project aimed to empower refugee women by creating sustainable income opportunities through their traditional embroidery skills.[4][5]
Starting with 20 women artists in 2015, SEP has since expanded its collaboration to over 600 refugee women in Jordan.
SEP's product line has expanded to include table linens, scarves, accessories, and custom gifts. In 2018, the brand gained recognition in the film industry by contributing embroidered costumes for the film Mary Magdalene, working with Oscar-winning costume designer Jacqueline Durran.[6][not in citation given]
It showcased its collections at the 2022 Milan Fashion Week in the "Designers for Ethical Fashion" segment and participated on Dubai Expo 2020's Opportunity Pavilion.[7][8]
Production
SEP states that it aims to preserve the cultural and traditional embroidery techniques of refugee women. The company provides training through an internal academy.[4][9]
The company maintains an online retail presence.
