S Sridhar
S Sridhar is the President of the Organisation of Pharmaceutical Producers of India (OPPI), the apex industry body representing research-based pharmaceutical industry in India.[1] [2] Sridhar is also the Managing Director of Pfizer Limited, Indian subsidiary of US Pharma company Pfizer Inc. and heads Pfizer Inc’s commercial business in India.[3]
Sridhar was elected as the President of the OPPI in February 2021 for a term of two years by the Board of Directors of OPPI.[4] Sridhar has been a member of the Executive Committee of OPPI for six years before he was elevated to the position of the President[5] His election was at a time when the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, and pharmaceutical companies are at the heart of efforts to tackle the coronavirus and its variants that are putting tremendous pressure on health care systems.[6]
He was first appointed as the Managing Director of Pfizer Ltd, a listed company at the Bombay Stock Exchange, in 2016. He was re-appointed as the Managing Director for another five years in February 2021.[7] Sridhar has worked as the Chief Financial Officer of the company for seven years and was appointed the Executive Director on the Board in May 2013.[8] Prior to joining Pfizer, Sridhar was the Finance Director of Diageo India Pvt Ltd.[9]
Sridhar led the merger of Wyeth Limited with Pfizer Limited that has resulted in two listed entities successfully combining talent and product portfolios to create a single ‘go to market’ strategy.[10]
Sridhar is a strong voice of transformation healthcare in India and has effectively been advocating for policies that are pro patient, encourage innovation and provide for a positive environment for the biopharmaceutical industry to grow.[11] He is a strong voice for India emerging as a leader in pharmaceuticals, especially in innovation driven drug business and in APIs.[12]
