Saandeep Patel (born 23 November 1963) is an Indian film/television director and screenwriter who is mainly known for his works in Gujarati cinema.
Education[edit]
Saandeep did his B.Sc.(Physics) from Gujarat University in 1983. In 1986, he pursued Diploma in Dramatics from Gujarat University. After that, he took basic training course for television “Basic Educational Television Production” organized by Asia-Pacific Institute For Broadcasting Development (AIBD) & Central Institute Of Educational Technology (BBC) in 1986 at New Delhi, NCERT and the Advance Training Course “ Television Production & Technical Operations – Educational TV” organized by Development & Educational Communication Unit (DECU) in 1987 at ISRO, Ahmedabad.
Personal life[edit]
Saandeep was born to a very popular theater actor Jayantiram Patel. He started working in theater with his father from a very young age. Saandeep got married to popular producer, actor and writer Aarti Patel in 1991. They have two daughters - Aarohi Patel and Sanjanaa Patel.
Career[edit]
Right at the beginning of his career, Saandeep was awarded with “Jury’s Special Award”, a National Award for the short film “Aashrit” in 1988-89 in National Children’s Educational Video Festival held at Mysore.
Starting from a very popular serial Goras in 1989 till Kamaal Vahu Dhamaal Sasu in 2013, Saandeep has directed more than 50 television serials for Doordarshan, Ahmedabad . He also directed serials like Sati Savitri and Raja Harishchandra for Sab TV. Motibaa, Sagpan Ek Ukhanu and Niharika are some of the most popular serials of recent times which were directed by him for different channels. Besides serials, he has directed many educational programmes, commission programmes, short films and documentaries for organizations like DAVP, ISRO, Information Department of Gujarat, Prasar Bharti etc.
Saandeep made his debut film in 1999 with Moti Na Chowk Re Sapna Ma Ditha starring Hiten Kumar, Roma Manek and Aarti Patel. The film went on to become a critical success and won various state awards. In 2005, he directed his second film Gago Ke'dada nu Painu Painu Karto'to. In 2017, after directing various popular daily soaps, he made a comeback as a film director with one of the most popular Gujarati films of all times Love Ni Bhavai, starring Malhar Thakar, Aarohi Patel and Pratik Gandhi.
