Early life and education

Lassegue was born in Maryland, United States, but grew up between Bethesda, Maryland and the Upper West Side in New York. According to her IMDb profile, she is of Haitian and Italian descent, with speculation of Chinese heritage and began in print modeling, dance and playing in the Lion King as Young Nala.[1] Public information about her early life remains limited.

She trained in the performing arts at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) and Juilliard, later pursuing business studies at Harvard Business School.[3]

Sexual assault and advocacy

When she was fifteen years old, Lassegue was raped and beaten by three boys in Bethesda, Maryland.[4] According to her testimony before the Maryland legislature, after the assault she underwent a rape examination (rape kit), but was discouraged from pressing charges. Later, when she attempted to seek justice, she discovered the rape kit had been destroyed, meaning she was unable to prosecute her assailants. [5]

Her experience has informed her activism and her support for legislation to strengthen survivors’ rights and tracking of sexual assault evidence kits. [2]
