Under the leadership of the Raïs Ibrahim Tazi, the Marinid forces left Alexandria and raided Cyprus with the goal of expanding their influence in the Eastern Mediterranean.[2][3][4][5][6]
The island suffered greatly during the invasion, and many were enslaved or killed.[7]
