Sacred Heart Catholic Church (Fillmore, Iowa)
Sacred Heart Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish near the village of Fillmore, Iowa. It is about three miles northeast of Cascade, Iowa at the intersection of Sundown Rd. (Dubuque County Y-21) and U.S. Highway 151. Sacred Heart is part of the Archdiocese of Dubuque.
The parish was founded in 1890 by residents of the Fillmore area. At that time the church building was built along Military Road (now U.S. 151) at that time. By 1910, there were over 60 families attending mass at Sacred Heart, so it was decided then to build a new church. Anton Zwack was hired by the parish to direct the building of the current structure, and the cornerstone for this building was laid in June 1910.
