Safa Ali Mohamed Yousif
Safa Ali Mohamed Yousif (born 24 February 1979(age 46), in Omdurman) is a Sudanese consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist based at Al-Saudi Maternity Hospital in Al-Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan.[1]
Ali is a native Arabic speaker and also speaks advanced English; she practices Islam and is married.[2]
She has been instrumental in providing maternal healthcare amid the ongoing conflict in Sudan, often operating under dangerous conditions.[3] Her dedication has earned her recognition, including being named among the BBC's 100 Most Inspiring and Influential Women in 2024.[4]

Education
Dr. Safa Ali pursued her medical education at the Islamic University of Omdurman, earning her degree in medicine and surgery. During her studies, Dr. Safa Ali developed a strong interest in obstetrics and gynaecology, a field in which she has made significant contributions throughout her career.[1][5][6]
Career
After graduation, Ali joined Al-Saudi Maternity Hospital in Al-Fasher, North Darfur, where she became a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist. She has performed Caesarean sections and managed high-risk pregnancies, often under difficult conditions due to the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan.[4][6]
During periods of heavy fighting near the hospital, she and her colleagues continued providing care despite shortages of electricity, clean water, medical supplies, and fuel for generators. According to the BBC, Ali refused to evacuate during shelling and helped relocate staff and patients to safer locations while continuing to deliver emergency maternal care.[4][6]
Ali is also an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the National University of Sudan.[7]
