Ustad Sahadat Rana Khan (born 7 January 1966) is an accomplished Indian classical musician known for his expertise in the Hindustani music tradition. Hailing from the esteemed Patiala gharana, he is the son of the legendary Sangeet Acharya Md. Yunus Khan and is married to Najhum Ara Razi.
In various renditions of a story, Pandit Dulal Roy once remarked that Sahadat Rana Khan was the "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music."[1]
Early Life[edit]
Ud. Sahadat Rana Khan was born on 7 January 1966 in Malda, West Bengal, India. He graduated in commerce from one of Malda's most reputed colleges. After a brief period in the professional world, he embarked on his musical journey under the guidance of his father, Sangeet Acharya Md. Yunus Khan, and his uncle, Ustad Abdul Khaleque Khan. Following his father's demise, he continued his training under the mentorship of the legendary Ustad Rashid Khan and later from Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan, a torchbearer of the Agra Gharana and Guru at the ITC Sangeet Research Academy.
Career[edit]
Ustad Sahadat Rana Khan has graced numerous major concerts, showcasing his mastery in rendering Khyals. In addition to traditional performances, he has occasionally ventured into the contemporary realm of Indian pop music. Having performed at renowned venues across India from the age of 20 and continuing for the next 5 years, his recitals are characterized by mature and rhythmic renditions, often featuring unrestrained taans spanning three and a half octaves.
Currently, Sahadat Rana Khan serves as the director of "Sabrang Sangeet Vidyalaya," an institution dedicated to Indian Classical Music founded by his father, Late. Yunus Khan, in 1960.
In August 2012, an audio CD featuring a raga composed by Sahadat Rana Khan was released. The CD included two Raagas and a bhajan, with accompaniment by the legendary Tabla Maestro Pandit Samar Saha.
