Saint Seiya: Knights Of The Zodiac (Working Title) is a live-action movie currently in development, based on the characters created by Masami Kurumada and featured in the Saint Seiya manga and anime productions. In May 2017, it was announced[1] that Toei Animation would team up with Hong Kong-based production company A Really Good Film Company to produce a live adaptation of the series. Polish director Tomasz Bagiński had already been selected as the filmmaker responsible for filming, while producers Jeffrey Chan, Joseph Chou, and Yoshi Ikezawa were also included in the official cast.

Tim Kwok (Convergence Entertainment), Miguel Faura, Masami Kurumada and Kozo Morishita of Toei Animation are also listed[2][3] as executive producers of the movie.

Writer Eugene Son is also part of the writing team who developed stories for the Netflix remake of the series. in a 3 October 2020 tweet,[4][5] writer Blazej Dzikowski confirmed his involvement with the production.

At a press conference, creator Masami Kurumada talked[6] about the project as "[Something that] is for our loyal fanbase who have supported Seiya for the last 30 years as well as the new generation of fans."

In December 2018, the official[7] CGI Poster for the movie was released.

Casting[edit]

Los Angeles-based casting director Brad Gilmore was appointed as being responsible of casting sessions in 2019.[8]

In March 2021, in an article written by Forbes, actress Famke Janssen stated[9] that she had been cast as one of the female protagonists in the movie, which was supposed to begin filming the previous year in Europe, but shooting sessions were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, Mackenyu was reported as being part of the project, and similarly to Janssen, encountered problems with filming sessions, this time because he himself had contracted the virus.[10][11]

Principal photography[edit]

Principal photography began in Summer 2021 in Budapest, Hungary. Polish studio Platige Image took charge of the CGI aspect of production, along with SFX veteran Ron Simonson who started working on the project in January 2021.[12][13]
