Sajana Shaji is the first transgender person to obtain a driving licence and voter ID in Ernakulam, Kerala, India.[1] She is now running a business named "Sajana's Ilappothi Biriyani". Using their car, they are selling biriyani in different places in Ernakulam Town.[2]
Business history
Starting from a garment shop in Kozhikode, they have worked at many places, including a supermarket in Bengaluru. They were broke most of the time and even begged people on trains for help. They have run a hostel by themselves. They invested what was saved for their wedding and sex reassignment surgery into the business and are planning to develop the endeavour into a full-fledged restaurant. They purchased a Maruti 800 car for transportation and sale so they don't have to depend on anyone. They buy utensils and groceries themselves. They started at Kakkanad, and now they have opened outlets in Kalamassery and High Court Junction with help from their friends.[2]
Sajana had earlier adopted 16 children and ensured their education is taken care of.[2]
