Sakshi Malik
Sakshi Malik (born 3 September 1992) is a freestyle wrestler. At the 2016 Summer Olympics (August 2016), she won the bronze medal in the 58 kg category, becoming the first Indian female wrestler to win a medal at the Olympics. Sakshi Malik got Silver Medal in Asian Wrestling Championship 2017. She won Bronze medal in CWG-2018.
Her family[edit]
Sakshi was born on 3 September 1992 in Mokhra village in Rohtak district in Haryana. Her father Sukhbir, is an employee with Delhi Transport Corporation and her mother Sudesh Malik, a government servant. According to her father, she was motivated to take up wrestling from seeing her grandfather, who was also a wrestler. She began training in wrestling at the age of 12 under a coach, Ishwar Dahiya, at an akhara in Chhotu Ram Stadium, Rohtak. Her coach and she had to face opposition from the locals for having taken up a sport "not for girls".
Sakshi had previously won silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and bronze medal at the 2015 Asian Wrestling Championships in Doha.

Sakshi Malik to get richer by at least Rs 2.5 crore after winning the bronze medal at Rio 2016 Olympics Sakshi Malik ended India’s long wait for a medal at Rio 2016 Olympics when she won a bronze in the women’s wrestling 58kg category on the 12th day of the Summer Games. The win is set to make the Rohtak girl richer as plenty of cash rewards are set to come her away[1]. As things stand, an inflow of more than Rs 2.5 crore is on the cards. Here’s how:
- Haryana government has promised a bumper bonus for medalists. Rs 6 crore for gold, Rs 4 crore for silver and Rs 2 crore for bronze. In addition to this, land in the state.
- Railways had promised a cash reward of Rs 1 crore for gold medallist, Rs 75 lakh for silver medallist and Rs 50 lakh for bronze medallist. Malik is employed with Railways and is set get Rs 50 lakh from them.
- At a meeting with the managers and coaches of the teams, the IOA top brass comprising president N Ramachandran and secretary general Rajeev Mehta, it was earlier announced that the national Olympic body for the first time would award Rs 50 lakh for a gold medal, Rs 30 lakh for silver and Rs 20 lakh for bronze.
In addition, the coaches will be awarded an equivalent of 50 per cent of the amount that the athletes receive. So, a gold-winning athlete would receive Rs. 50 lakh, while his or her coach would receive Rs. 25 lakh and so on. Ramachandran said, “this is the first time we are doing it and we hope that this will form an additional incentive for the athletes and we are looking at a higher than ever medal haul”.
- Salman Khan has also promised a cheque of Rs 1,01,000 for the athletes.
- JSW to give the bronze medallist Rs 15 lakhs.

कुश्ती की सुल्तान का शाही स्वागत, मुख्यमंत्री ने सौंपा ढाई करोड़ का चेक
हरियाणा के मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल खट्टर ने बुधवार को बहादुरगढ़ पहुंचने पर साक्षी मलिक का स्वागत किया।
जागरण संवाददाता, बहादुरगढ़। रियो ओलंपिक में कांस्य का तमगा जीत कुश्ती की सुल्तान बनीं साक्षी मलिक के कदम जैसे ही गृह प्रदेश हरियाणा की धरती पर पड़े, उनका राज्य अतिथि की तर्ज पर शाही स्वागत किया गया। क्या मंत्री, क्या संतरी, परिजन हो या आमजन सभी देर रात से ही साक्षी के स्वागत में पलक पांवड़े बिछाए हुए नजर आए। दुनिया भर में देश-प्रदेश का नाम ऊंचा करने वाली अपनी लाडो की एक झलक पाने को सड़कों पर लोगों का भारी हुजूम था।
इंदिरा गांधी एयरपोर्ट पर साक्षी का स्वागत करने को प्रदेश सरकार के कई मंत्रियों समेत परिजन व भारी संख्या में लोग देर रात से डटे थे। जैसे ही साक्षी के कदम एयरपोर्ट पर पड़े, उनका जोरदार स्वागत किया गया। इसके बाद उन्हें वहां से सड़क मार्ग से बहादुरगढ़ में प्रवेश किया। वहां राज्य स्तरीय सम्मान समारोह में मुख्यमंत्री मनोहर लाल ने साक्षी मलिक को ढाई करोड़ रुपये का चेक सौंपा। साथ ही उन्होंने साक्षी को बेटी बचाओ, बेटी पढ़ाओ की ब्रांड अंबेसडर बनाने की भी घोषणा की। उन्होंने साक्षी को द्वितीय श्रेणी के अधिकारी की नौकरी का भी आफर दिया। साथ ही साक्षी को मां को सुदेश को भी बाल विकास विभाग में सीडीपीओ नियुक्त करने की घोषणा की।
मुख्यमंत्री ने एलान किया कि प्रदेश को खेलों का हब बनाने में कोई कोर कसर नहीं छोड़ी जाएगी। प्रदेश में खेल यूनिवर्सिटी खोली जाएगी। साक्षी के पैतृक गांव मोखरा में खेल नर्सरी की स्थापना के साथ-साथ स्टेडियम बनाया जाएगा। उन्होंने युवा पीढ़ी से आह्वान किया कि वह खेलों में बढ़-चढ़कर भाग ले। हरियाणा देश का पहला राज्य है, जहां पदक विजेताओं को सबसे ज्यादा राशि दी जाती है।
अपने शाही सम्मान से साक्षी भी गद्गद नजर आईं। उन्होंने कहा कि मेडल जीतने के बाद जिंदगी ही बदल गई है। उन्होंने पहलवान सुशील व योगेश्वर की सराहना करते हुए कहा कि उनसे प्रेरणा लेकर ही वे आज इस मुकाम पर पहुंची। इन दोनों ने ओलंपिक में मेडल के रास्ते खोले। इस मौके पर मुख्यमंत्री ने साक्षी के कोच मनदीप व कुलदीप को भी दस-दस लाख रुपये का चेक सौंपकर सम्मानित किया गया।
साक्षी ने खाया नानी के हाथ का चूरमा, पूरी-सब्जी का भी उठाया लुत्फ
साक्षी जब अपने ननिहाल ईस्माइला पहुंची तो वहां उनका भव्य स्वागत हुआ। साक्षी को अपने नानी शकुंतला देवी के हाथ का बना हुआ चूरमा खाने को मिला। साथ ही उन्होंने वहां पूरी-सब्जी का भी लुत्फ उठाया। साक्षी के लिए नानी के साथ ही थाली लगाई गई। इस दौरान नानी ने भी अपने हाथ से लाडो को खाना खिलाया। इससे पहले ईस्माइला पहुंचने पर साक्षी नानी से गले मिलीं और फिर पैर छूकर उनका आशीर्वाद लिया। साक्षी ने रियो ओलंपिक में 58 कि.ग्रा. भार वर्ग में जीते कांस्य पदक को भी नानी को दिखाया। इस पर नानी ने कहा, इस मेडल को देखने के लिए मुझे बेसब्री से इंतजार था। नानी ने कहा कि तूने मेरा ही नहीं, सभी का सपना पूरा किया है। नानी ने सिर पर हाथ रखकर भविष्य में ढेरों सफलताओं के लिए आशीर्वाद दिया। नानी के हाथ से बने चूरमा के साथ ही काफिले में शामिल उनके परिजनों और रिश्तेदारों ने भी वहां पूरी-सब्जी का लुत्फ लिया।
साक्षी की ममेरी बहन सपना भी साक्षी से मिली। वे कुश्ती में देश के लिए मेडल जीतने वाली साक्षी से मिलने के बाद खुशी से फूली नहीं समाईं। यहां बता दें कि सपना साक्षी की हमउम्र होने के साथ ही साक्षी के साथ पढ़ी भी हैं। यही वजह है कि साक्षी की सबसे निकट दोस्त भी सपना है। सपना ने बताया कि साक्षी शरारती भी रही है, लेकिन आज तक कभी डांट नहीं खाई क्योंकि वह अपने नियम और अनुशासन की धनी रही है। इनका यह भी कहना है कि देश बेशक आज जीत की खुशी मना रहा है, लेकिन हमें बचपन से ही ऐसा लगता रहा कि साक्षी कभी देश और दुनिया में बड़ा नाम करेगी क्योंकि साक्षी जो कह देती है, वह करके दिखाने वाली लड़की है।
