Career[edit]
LaBarbera has served Patrol, Vice, Narcotics, Gangs, Specialized Units, as a Field Supervisor and as the Officer in Charge of a South Los Angeles gang unit.[citation needed] He has taught homicide and crime scene investigations to both new police recruits and detectives and was a contributor to The LAPD Homicide Manual.[citation needed] According to his superior officer Jeff Nolte, LaBarbera's "gift was his ability to schmooze with the neighbors."[1]
LaBarbera was the Task Force Leader in a joint FBI/LAPD homicide task force from 2010 to 2012.[citation needed]
Controversy[edit]
In 2011 LaBarbera was investigated by LAPD for illegally tweeting an image of a dead body he had taken at a crime scene. [2] According to KCAL-TV the image showed "the bloody body of a murdered male covered by a sheet."[3]
