Salah El Sharnouby (born on 29 December 1957), is an Egyptian composer and songwriter.[1][2]

Early life[edit]

Salah was born in 1957, in Alexandria. In 1979, he graduated from Alexandria University's Faculty of Engineering, department of Mechanics, after having completed various stages of education. Following graduation, he worked as a mechanical engineer until 1990, at which point he devoted himself to composing music and creating art.[2][3]

Career[edit]

After working as a mechanical engineer in Alexandria until 1990, he decided to move to Cairo and begin his music career. His work combines old Egyptian Shaabi music with contemporary pop popular in Cairo in the 1990s. The first piece of music he ever composed and was widely recognized for was a piece called Batwanes Beek for Warda, which gained him great fame in the nineties, and many artists collaborated with him.[4][5] El Sharnouby composed many songs for the region's biggest stars like Asala, Bahaa Sultan, Kadim Al Sahir, Hamada Helal, Hani Shaker, and many others.[6]
