Sallyport Investments (also known as Sallyport) is an American private equity firm based in Houston, Texas, that invests in lower and middle-market companies. The firm closed its first fund, Sallyport Partners Fund, in January 2025 with $160 million in capital commitments, exceeding its $150 million target.[1][2]
History
Sallyport was established in 2012 as a single-family office making direct investments on behalf of the family of Douglas Foshee, the former chairman, president, and chief executive officer of El Paso Corp.[1][3] In 2023, Foshee and managing partners Kyle Bethancourt and Ryan Howard founded the private equity firm to raise outside capital.[1]
In January 2025, the firm announced the close of its first fund, Sallyport Partners Fund, with $160 million in total capital commitments, $10 million above its target.[1][2] Foshee seeded the fund and serves on its investment committee.[1][4] Investors in the fund include entrepreneurs, business executives, and Texas families; other than Foshee, investors were not disclosed.[1]
Investments
The fund focuses primarily on investments in founder- and family-owned businesses, corporate carve-outs, and startups across various industries.[1] According to the firm, it targets equity investments of $10 million to $20 million in companies with at least $5 million of EBITDA.[5]
As of 2026, the firm's website lists three fund investments: Advanced Spirits, Elevex Capital, and Submar, a pipeline erosion remediation company.[6][7] Its earlier family-office portfolio included investments in companies such as Rice Energy, Workrise, Tiff's Treats, and T.D. Williamson.[6]
Leadership
The firm is led by chairman Douglas Foshee and managing partners Kyle Bethancourt and Ryan Howard.[1]
Before Sallyport, Bethancourt was a vice president in the credit division of Blackstone and earlier worked at D. E. Shaw & Co.[1] He holds a BBA from Texas A&M University and an MBA from the Wharton School.[8]
Howard previously worked at Platform Partners, a Houston-based private equity firm, and earlier in the natural resources group of Goldman Sachs.[1]
