Salman Alvi
Salman Alvi is a ghazal and semi-classical singer from Pakistan.
A recipient of the Pride of Performance award by the President of Pakistan in 2018.
Born into a family of educationists, his parents were Syed Aminudddin Alvi, Principal Cantt Public School, Karachi, Pakistan, and Zahida Alvi.
Young Salman was encouraged in both music and academia.
He started his musical journey at the age of 4 at Radio Pakistan, playing different musical instruments.
While still studying during his college days, he and his friends formed a pop-music band called "The Raindrops" in 1971-72. He was the guitarist and also served as lead vocalist.
After graduating from the IBA Karachi with an MBA, he became a student of Late Ustad Chand Amrohvi, learning Eastern classical music.
His journey into the ghazal discipline started in the late 70s.
Salman's first ghazal hit was "Ye Kis ne kaha tum kooch karo, batain na banao Insha Ji," performed on the PTV game show Neelam Ghar hosted by legendary Tariq Aziz.
This was written by Qateel Shifai in memory and as a tribute to Ibne Insha, who passed away in 1979.
It was such a big hit that the leading audio label of that time, PMC (Pakistan Music Company), approached Salman for his first ghazal album, which was released in 1981.

Salman Alvi has hosted many music television programs, including mega hits: Bazm-e-Mehdi Hassan, Sur Zindagi Hai, Suron Ka Rung.
He has performed live globally for heads of state, and enthralling audiences.
