Sam LaBeach

Sam LaBeach (15 April 1924 – 22 November 2022) was a Panamanian sprinter who was selected for the 1952 Summer Olympics.[1]

Life and career

Samuel Alexander LaBeach was born in Panama City, Panama on 15 April 1924. He was the older brother of Jamaican sprinter Byron LaBeach and the younger brother of Panamanian sprinter Lloyd LaBeach. The siblings moved to Jamaica at a young age.

He was selected for the 1952 Summer Olympics but suffered an injury in training.

Retiring shortly after the Olympics, he worked for the U.S. Department of Recreation for forty years. He also worked as a soccer referee and as a track coach at University of the District of Columbia.

LaBeach was a co-founder of the D.C. Marathon, precursor to the Marine Corps Marathon.

LaBeach died in Washington, D.C., U.S., on 22 November 2022.
