Samar Nakhate (born 18 June, 1951) is an Indian film scholar and professor. He is currently Professor Emeritus at Savitribai Phule Pune University[1] and Director of School of Film Studies at MIT World Peace University[2]. An alumnus of Fergusson College and the Film and Television Institute of India, where he studied Film Direction, he later served as TV Dean at FTII.[3][1] He is also currently serving as the Creative Director of the Pune International Film Festival.[4]
As a child actor, Nakhate has appeared in Do Aankhen Barah Haath, directed by the famed filmmaker V. Shantaram. He later appeared in Gulabjaam.
For his work as a film academician, Nakhate was awarded the inaugural P. K. Nair Memorial Award in 2016.[5]
